Why Should I Hire a Virtual Assistant?

October 16, 2017

Congratulations! Your business has taken off and is doing great! You’ve got more customers than you ever imagined, but now you’re feeling a bit overwhelmed. Should you hire an employee? Here are a few things to consider:

Where Will I Put Them?

When you hire an employee, weirdly enough, they would like to have some place to hang their hat in your office. If you’re just starting out, you may have a home office or you might have a smaller space you’ve rented. You’ll need to have someplace to set up an office for your new employee, or……

You could hire a Virtual Assistant. The Virtual Assistant works from their home – so you don’t need to find a place for their office.

How Much Will I Have to Spend on Office Equipment?

Of course, the exact cost will vary based on what kind of deals you can find, but at the bare minimum you will need:

* Desk

* Chair

* Computer

* Monitor

* Printer

* File Cabinet

* Supplies

Or……

You could hire a Virtual Assistant who would provide all of their own office equipment. No searching for sales or worrying about moving office furniture.

Will I Need My Assistant Full-Time or Part-Time?

Sometimes this can be hard to determine. How efficient will your new assistant be? Could they complete the work you need finished in 20 hours a week, or will they need 40? Something in-between? What if your workload will vary from week to week? How will you keep them busy when you don’t have much work?

Or….

You could hire a Virtual Assistant and use their services for as many or as few hours as you require. Since they are a contract employee, it is completely flexible for both parties.

How Much Will I Have to Pay for Employee Taxes, Benefits, Etc.?

At minimum, you will need to pay 7.65% FICA for your employee. If they are full time, you will have to consider benefits for most employees, which will then add health insurance, vacation time, sick time, and personal time. There could also be paid holidays as well. You will have to pay for lunch breaks, and two fifteen minute breaks throughout the day. Not to mention any time that they may need to use the restroom, etc.

Or….

You could hire a Virtual Assistant. As a contract employee, you only pay them for the time they are actually working on your tasks. You don’t have to pay any taxes, benefits, etc. You pay strictly for what you need – that’s it.

Conclusion

There are many, many more reasons to hire a Virtual Assistant, but these seem to be the top reasons most employers think of when they are making a comparison. Virtual Assistants allow you avoid the hassle of finding extra space in your office, avoid the cost and hassle of buying office equipment and furniture, avoid having to figure out how to keep an assistant busy for a fixed number of hours, and saving the expense of paying for extra taxes and benefits for a traditional employee.
